UN head calls for Gaza ceasefire

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for an "immediate de-escalation and cessation" of the conflict in Israel and the Gaza Strip.

Guterres cited that the hostilities should end "out of respect for the spirit of Eid," saying that "too many innocent civilians have already died." Additionally, he asserted that radicalization and extremism will be increased in the region due to the ongoing conflict.

Meanwhile, the UN Security Council moved their planned meeting to Sunday, after the United States blocked the meeting on Friday saying that it was to "give time for diplomacy" to play out.
