Moderna Inc. announced on Monday that they have asked the Swiss health regulators to approve the use of their coronavirus vaccine for ages 12 to 17.

According to the company's Chief Executive Officer Stéphane Bancel, the company is "encouraged" by the performance of its vaccine in adolescents, saying that it was "highly effective." Additionally, he also stated that Moderna will "continue to file with regulatory agencies around the world for this important younger age population," adding that they remain committed to ending the pandemic.

Switzerland becomes the latest country that has been asked for approval by Moderna for its vaccine to be used for 12 to 17-year-olds, following the United States, the European Union, and Canada, as the company touted a 100% effectiveness rate in that age bracket.
