Tai: US, EU tariffs to stay put off as long as deal is honored

United States Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai stated on Tuesday the tariffs linked to Airbus SE and the Boeing Company that Washington and the European Union suspended earlier in the day will remain canceled "so long as" the bloc's support for the France-based company is "consistent with the terms of this agreement."

"Should EU support cross the red line, and US producers are not able to compete fairly, and on a level playing field, the US retains the flexibility to reactivate the tariffs that are being suspended," Tai warned. She added both sides agreed to abandon the tariffs for at least five years.

Earlier in the day, the US and the EU agreed to suspend sanctions imposed on each other over subsidies they were giving to airline manufacturers Boeing and Airbus, respectively.
