Europe closes higher on tech, vaccine news

Major stock markets in Europe closed higher on Tuesday, as investors digested the latest technology and coronavirus vaccines news. The European Union announced that they have purchased an additional 150 million COVID-19 vaccine doses from Moderna, while the bloc's health regulator approved the construction of two more sites for the production of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.

Meanwhile, the EU opened an antitrust investigation into Google's advertising-technology business, while Germany's Angela Merkel indicated that the government will likely need to help out in the country's production of microchips.

The DAX closed 0.24% higher, with Covestro AG rising 4.59%. The FTSE 100 was 0.49% in the green, as British Land Company inclined 5.19%. The CAC 40 gained 0.18%, with Unibail up 2.29%. Both the euro and the pound decreased 0.15% against the dollar trading for $1.19012 and $1.39130 respectively at 5:36 pm CET.
