Intel, Airtel partner up to accelerate India's 5G network

Intel Corporation unveiled on Wednesday that it has partnered up with Bharti Airtel to accelerate the growth of India's 5G.

According to the press release, Intel will provide the technology to power up Airtel's network, with the aim to drive network development of 4G and 5G virtualized radio access network (vRAN) and open radio access network (RAN) technology. In turn, this should help Airtel's 345 million users be fully connected to the 5G network, as the company shifts its focus to cloud and edge computing and communications.

Intel's Corporate Vice-President Dan Rodriguez commented on the news: "Being able to digitally power the vibrant population of India’s connected users requires scalable and agile networks that can evolve to address the growing demands of its users. Airtel is delivering their next-generation enhanced network with a breadth of Intel technology...to scale their infrastructure and deliver on the promise of a connected India."
