Italy's health regulator greenlighted on Wednesday the emergency use of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine among children aged between 12 and 17 years.

"The available data demonstrate the efficacy and safety of the vaccine also for subjects in this age group," the Agenzia Italiana del Farmaco (AIFA) said in a statement, making Moderna's jab the second one to be used among adolescents following Pfizer's approval.

The AIFA's decision comes in order with the recommendation made by the European Medicines Agency last week.
