European stocks close higher amid earnings

Major stock indexes in Europe finished Wednesday's trading session in the green with the focus on today's corporate earnings. GlaxoSmithKline plc reported a 12% increase in second-quarter revenue, while Spotify Technology S.A. posted a 23% improvement. Meanwhile, the British government announced that travelers from the European Union and the United States will not require to quarantine upon arrival.

The FTSE 100 was 0.29% above the flatline. Fresnillo plc was the best performer, jumping 6.84%. The DAX rose 0.33% as Siemens Energy AG advanced 3.19%. The CAC 40 gained 1.18% with Renault SA climbing 5.00%.

The euro and the pound were both flat against the dollar at 5:29 pm CET, changing hands for $1.18079 and $1.38778 respectively.
