The military junta currently governing Myanmar, the State Administration Council, announced on Sunday that it formed an interim government headed by regime leader, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing (pictured) as prime minister.

Vice-Senior General Soe Win will be his deputy. During a televised address, Min Aung Hlaing also revealed that the next general elections should be expected in the second half of 2023.

The State Administration Council seized power in the country after coup d'etat in February, during which the military arrested democratically elected government members over alleged voter fraud. According to Assistance Association for Political Prisoners in Myanmar, 940 people have been killed so far in protests opposing the military leadership.
