Europe opens mixed as Wall Street retreats from records

Shares on the major European stock market indexes traded mixed on Monday, as the Wall Street stocks retreated in the premarket from record-highs registered on Friday. On the data front, Germany's trade balance report for June revealed that the country's trade surplus has extended to €16.3 billion in the sixth month. Eurozone's investor confidence data is scheduled for release later in the day.

The DAX gained 0.1% at 9:03 am CET, with Covestro AG up by 1.52% a minute later. The CAC 40 stood flat at the open. The FTSE 100 slid 0.09% at the session's start as Glencore dropped 1.43% a minute later.

Both the euro and the pound were unchanged compared to the dollar at 9:08 am CET, selling for 1.17568 and 1.38784, respectively. Earlier during the day, the euro traded at its three-month low versus the greenback.
