FDA looking at lowering Moderna booster dosage - report

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is assessing the request by Moderna Inc. to reduce the booster dose of its coronavirus vaccine by 50% compared to the first two shots administered earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.

Unnamed sources briefed on the matter told the newspaper that a final decision has not been made as some officials feel that the full 100 microgram dose would induce a stronger immune response compared to a lower dose shot, especially when taking into account the emergence of new virus strains.

Limited data on the issue further complicates the decision-making at the FDA, according to the report.
