Wall Street closes mixed after jobs data disappoints

Stocks on Wall Street ended Friday's session mixed as investors digested a worse-than-expected nonfarm payrolls report ahead of the long Labor Day weekend. The Bureau of Labor Statistics said the US added 235,000 jobs in August and that the unemployment rate stood at 5.2%.

The Dow Jones declined 0.21%. The worst performer was American Express whose stock fell 1.70%.

The Nasdaq 100 rose 0.31%. DocuSign led the gains as its shares surged 5.26%. Moderna followed, jumping 4.79%.

The S&P 500 closed flat.

The euro added 0.05% against the dollar to sell for 1.18814 at 3:59 pm ET.
