United Kingdom's Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) confirmed on Tuesday that the COVID-19 vaccination with a booster shot should commence soon, and added that the jab developed by Pfizer/BioNTech should be used regardless of the initial vaccination.

The JCVI issued a statement explaining that those above 50 years of age, as well as those with a compromised immune system, should receive an additional shot, but not earlier than 6 months after they were given the second dose.

The committee pointed out that a half-dose of Moderna Inc.'s jab can also be used as a booster shot.
