Europe closes lower on furlough uncertainty

Major European stock markets closed lower on Thursday amid concerns about the impact of the end of Britain’s furlough scheme which “protected 11.6 million jobs”. Slight decreases in German and EU unemployment were reported and German inflation hit 4.1%.

The DAX dropped 0.68% as RWE AG INH O.N. declined 2.83%. The FTSE 100 fell 0.31% as British American Tobacco tumbled 4.57%, while the CAC 40 contracted 0.62% with Carrefour declining 2.60%.

The euro declined 0.09% in value against the dollar, selling for $1.15869 at 5:28 pm CET, while the pound sterling increased by 0.55% against the greenback to go for $1.34995.
