Friday, 15. October 2021 22:00

Major stock markets in the United States closed higher on Friday, as investors fully digested the better-than-expected start to earnings season. In politics, the White House was optimistic about its two major economic policy proposals passing Congress, as US President Joe Biden continued advocating for more spending on so-called human infrastructure.

Meanwhile, it was a mixed bag on the pandemic front, as a Food and Drug Administration panel recommended the use of a booster shot for the Johnson and Johnson COVID vaccine, but at the same time, the agency delayed its approval for the Moderna vaccine in adolescents.

The Dow Jones closed the session 1.10% higher, as Goldman Sachs gained 3.80%. The Nasdaq 100 was up by 0.63% at the end, with Amazon rising 3.31%. The S&P 500 finished 0.75% in the green, led by JB Hunt Transport jumping 8.74%. The euro gained 0.06% against the dollar trading for $1.16033 at 4:01 pm ET.
