Asian markets mixed as COVID concerns resurge

Major stock markets in the Asia-Pacific region traded mixed on Wednesday as Japanese car manufacturers recorded losses and South Korea posted its second-highest daily COVID case increase.

The Nikkei closed with a loss of 0.40% at 7:00 am CET. The Kospi Composite was down 1.08% at 7:24 am CET, while the Hang Seng dropped 0.44% at the same time. The S&P/ASX 200 was down 0.68% at closing time. The dollar was flat against the yen, going for ¥114.8465 at 7:24 am CET.

Mainland China bucked the trend of losses ahead of a major earnings release by Baidu, with the Shenzhen Composite up 0.61% at 7:26 am CET and the Shanghai Composite gaining 0.32% at 7:09 am CET.
