Europe closes mostly lower with pandemic in focus

Shares on the major stock markets in Europe traded mostly in the red at the close on Monday as the investors kept a close eye on the COVID-19 pandemic and the virus containment measures across the continent.

While German officials warned that current measures may not be enough to get the spread of the virus under control, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson assured that the data suggests there is no need to tighten the containment measures in the country.

The DAX slid 0.27% as the session came to a close with Zalando tumbling 4.28%. The CAC 40 declined by 0.1% at the same time with Worldline down by 3.05%. Meanwhile, in London, the FTSE 100 advanced by 0.44%, with Antofagasta jumping 5.01%.

The euro and the pound dropped 0.23% versus the dollar at 5:29 pm CET, selling for 1.12635 and 1.34135, respectively.
