Europe opens mostly higher with economy in focus

Major stock markets in Europe opened mostly higher on Friday amid the releases of several economic reports throughout the day. The United Kingdom observed a monthly decline in retail sales and a decrease in consumer confidence. Later in the day, Germany will unveil its latest performance in the business climate.

The DAX opened 0.44% higher as MTU Aero Engines AG rose by 1.23%. The CAC 40 advanced by 0.20%, with ArcelorMittal SA going up by 1.21%. On the other hand, the FTSE 100 stood flat.

The euro gained 0.24% to the dollar at 8:59 am CET to sell for $1.10230. At the same time, the pound sterling stood flat against the greenback to go for $1.31900.
