Europe declines at close amid Ukraine fights, data

Shares on the major European stock market indices traded with losses at the closing bell of Thursday's session as the clashes in Ukraine continued, with the country's officials reporting Russia's forces were leaving Chernobyl and the Donetsk mayor accusing Kiev's troops of using prohibited weapons on civilians in the city.

On the data front, the February unemployment rate settled at 6.8% in the euro area and 5.1% in Germany for March, according to the latest reports. Furthermore, French minister of economy Bruno Le Maire stated that France and Germany were engaged in total cooperation in order to tackle Moscow's potential cutting of gas deliveries to Europe.

The DAX fell 1.31% at the close, dragged down by HelloFresh SE's 8.26% drop, while the CAC 40 decreased 1.21%, with Worldline SA's 6.39% decline. Meanwhile, in London, the FTSE 100 slid 0.83%, with its lowest performer, Royal Mail PLC, diminishing by 4.25%. The euro was down by 0.49% against the dollar at 5:28 pm CET, selling for 1.11042, while the pound rose 0.1% versus the greenback, going for 1.31484 at the same time.
