Europe closes higher with ECB still as focal point

Major stock market indexes in Europe closed higher on Friday as investors were still digesting the European Central Bank's decision to raise key interest rates by 75 basis points (bps) while reaffirming its readiness to combat the ongoing economic crisis. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom observed the first day of mourning for the late Queen Elizabeth II in a, at the moment, seemingly peaceful transfer of the throne to King Charles III.

The DAX closed 1.39% or 178 points higher as HelloFresh SE soared by 4.51%. The FTSE 100 rose by 1.45% or 105 points, with Anglo American PLC surging by 5.01%. The CAC 40 advanced by 1.56% as Worldline SA jumped by 4.86%.

The euro grew by 0.41% against the dollar to change hands for $1.00378 at 5:28 pm CET. At the same time, the pound sterling increased by 0.66% against the greenback to go for $1.15808.
