German Federal Government estimated that the almost certain takeover of the country's energy company Uniper SE will cost over €30 billion, Business Insider reported on Tuesday, citing government sources familiar with the matter.

According to one of the sources, the buyout is getting closer, as the Government, which now aims to be the main shareholder, is largely in agreement with Uniper's previous majority stakeholder, Finnish Fortum Oyj.

The sources told the news outlet, that, parallel with the takeover, the Government is still planning to enforce a gas levy on consumers starting October 1.
