EU Commission asks Uniper to discard its Dutch business

The European Commission demands that German energy company Uniper disposes of its Dutch business in order to obtain regulatory approval for a rescue deal, German daily Handelsblatt reported on Monday, citing several sources familiar with the matter.

Earlier today, Germany banned a merger of Uniper and its gas importer Securing Energy for Europe GmbH (SEFE), formerly known as Gazprom Germania, citing antitrust issues. Last week, the company initiated arbitration proceedings against the Russian gas giant Gazprom over missing gas deliveries.
