Equinor: Key oil field could be shut if strike extends

Wednesday, 07. October 2020 22:34

Norwegian energy company Equinor ASA warned on Wednesday that an extended strike of oil rig workers in the country could lead to the closure of Johan Sverdrup, the third-largest oil field on the Norwegian continental shelf.

There are 43 members of trade union Lederne that have halted work at the field, but it did not affect the output so far, the company said.

"This situation would change if the strike continues into the 14 October. This is due to the scheduled rotation of personnel as there would not be sufficient capacity and competence in key operational functions at Johan Sverdrup. We hope that in the intervening period there may be a settlement between The Norwegian Oil and Gas Association and the union," Equinor said in a statement.
