South Korean President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol's nominee for the country's next foreign minister, Park Jin (pictured), expressed on Saturday his desire to seek the establishment of a hotline between Seoul and Pyongyang under the United States' supervision.

"Regardless of whether or not North Korea has the willingness to denuclearize, the right policy direction is to create conditions in which the North cannot but denuclearize and to make them realize that their nuclear weapons go against their own interests," he stated in its letter to the country's parliament.

His statement came after North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un reportedly said his country will "preemptively and thoroughly contain and frustrate all dangerous attempts and threatening moves, including ever-escalating nuclear threats from hostile forces, if necessary."
