US markets open higher amid earnings

United States stock indexes began trading higher on Thursday as focus remained on the newly-inaugurated President Joe Biden and the initial policy decisions of the new administration. Additionally, investors are waiting for today's corporate earnings which include Intel Corp. and IBM Corp. Other data published today showed initial jobless claims decreased by 26,000 on a weekly basis, while the number of newly started residential construction projects grew by 5.2% per annum.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average inched just above the flatline at the start with Travelers Companies Inc. going up 2.12%. The Nasdaq 100 jumped 0.46% at the same time as truck maker PACCAR Inc. advanced 3.78%. The S&P 500 rose 0.15% with Fort Motor Co. climbing 4.12%.

The euro gained 0.30% against the dollar at 9:29 am ET, changing hands for $1.21431. The pound increased 0.46% to $1.37216 concurrently.
