White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki stated on Tuesday United States President Joe Biden's administration enhanced Johnson & Johnson (J&J) and Merck & Co. Inc.'s agreement to manufacture the Janssen Pharmaceuticals' vaccine against COVID-19 by invoking the Defense Production Act and thus providing help to organizing their cooperation and facilities.

Psaki acknowledged the two companies might have had spoken earlier about this collaboration, as it was reported, but stressed such a deal fully came into fruition only recently, with Biden's team's help after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved J&J's jab.

The secretary added the administration was going to distribute 18 million doses of vaccines this week, including the ones of J&J's vaccine.
