US turns to losses as consumer confidence falls

Major stock market indexes in the United States turned to losses after opening higher on Tuesday after the newest report showed the nation's consumer confidence came in below market expectations in June. Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that BRICS, the organization comprising his country, Brazil, India, China, and South Africa, has begun preparations to have Argentina and Iran join it.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average went down by 0.66% or 208 points at 12:02 pm ET. At the same time, the Nasdaq 100 declined by 2.18% or 262 points, and the S&P 500 fell by 1.24%.

The euro lost 0.48% to the dollar to sell for $1.05332 at 12:03 pm ET. At that minute, the pound sterling decreased by 0.57% against the greenback to go for $1.21958.
