Major stock market indices in the United States ended the session on Thursday higher as traders shrugged off disappointing GDP figures and focused on more corporate earnings.

Amazon, Pinterest, Gilead Sciences, and T-Mobile were all set to report their results with investors closely attuned to the companies' earnings guidance in addition to their second-quarter performances. Meanwhile, in one of the year's most anticipated IPOs, shares of Robinhood debuted at the low end of the company's price range at $38 for a market valuation of some $32 billion.

The Dow Jones was up 153 points at the close as oil giant Chevron led the gains. The S&P 500 rose 0.43% with medical device company Align Technology surging over 8% as the strongest performer in the broad market index. The Nasdaq 100 gained 0.20% supported by strong gains in chip stocks.
