Austria: Producer prices slide 3.1% year-on-year

The Austrian Industrial producer price index (IPPI) reached 97.4 points in March, revealing a price decrease of 3.1% compared to the same month a year ago, according to data provided by Statistics Austria (Statistik).

The IPPI for the first quarter of 2016 decreased by 1.4%, compared to the fourth quarter. The year-over-year decline in the first quarter 2016 was 2.7%, confirming an ongoing downward trend for industrial producer prices: -3.1% in February and -2.1% in January.

The decline of the annual rate of the IPPI fall of 3.1% in March was mostly caused by a fall of 9.1% for the prices in the energy sector and 2.1% fall for intermediate goods. The prices for capital goods rose by 0.3% compared to March 2015 and the prices for consumer goods fell by 0.3%.

The IPPI slightly increased by 0.1% in period February-March 2016, said the Statistik report.

In Wien, the ATX index fell 0.20% to 2,339 points by 11:23 a.m. CET. Immofinanz dropped 1.50%, Zumtobel fell 1.12%, and Vienna Insurance Group dipped 0.61%. Telekom Austria gained 1.42% and RHI added 1.09%. Overall, financial sector saw most losses: Raiffeisen, Uniqa, Erste were all on the losing side.
