US opens mixed ahead of Treasury, Fed speeches

Major stock markets in the United States opened mixed on Tuesday ahead of remarks by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Fed's Chair Jerome Powell's testimony before the Congress. Traders are closely following the situation in Hong Kong, newly discovered swine flu, and the dispute between Facebook and companies that suspended their ads on the platforms due to policy disagreements.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.38% at the opening bell with Boeing Co decreasing by 4.24%. The S&P 500 declined by 0.13% as Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings lost 2.23%. On the other hand, the Nasdaq 100 rose by 0.05% with Lululemon Athletica growing 7.22%.

The euro went down by 0.21% compared to the dollar to sell for $1.12183 at 9:27 am ET.
