Europe opens mostly up as companies report earnings

European stock markets started Wednesday's trading mostly higher as countries around the world report rises in new coronavirus cases. Also, before the bell, Deutsche Bank, Santander, Sanofi and Barclays announced their quarterly results. On the data front, the index of import prices in Germany dropped by 5.1% in June.

The DAX started at 0.11% in the green at 9:03 am CET with Basf SE falling 3.96%. The FTSE 100 opened flat at 9 am CET with Barratt Developments Plc going down by 0.78%. The CAC 40 was up by 0.52% at 9:01 am CET. Kering was the best performer rising by 4.9%.

The euro gained 0.27% compared to the dollar as it went for 1.17475 at 8:59 am CET. The pound stood flat, changing hands for 1.29346 compared to the greenback.
