Wall Street opens slightly lower after jobs report

Shares on Wall Street started trading with losses on Thursday, shrugging off the release of the better-than-expected jobless claims report. The Labor Department said that initial jobless claims for the week ending August 1 landed at 1.19 million, well below estimates.

In other news, investors remained focused on the continuing deadlock in Washington concerning the next stimulus deal to support the US economy.

At the start of the session in New York, the Dow Jones declined 0.20% as Dow, Inc. led the losses. The S&P 500 was down 0.12% at the start of the session, while the Nasdaq 100 lost 0.08%. Western Digital Corporation was the worst performer, sliding over 15%.
