The United Kingdom recorded 30,004 new COVID-19 cases and 610 coronavirus-related deaths over the last 24 hours, the government's data showed on Sunday. The data suggested a 22.3% reduction of newly registered cases on a weekly level, but a 10.8% increase in fatalities.

Compared to the previous day, 4,013 were admitted to the hospital, representing a 6.3% decrease in the last seven days. 6.35 million people in the UK received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by January 23, while nearly 470,000 also got the second dose.

The virus reproduction rate stood between 0.8 to 1 with a daily infection growth rate range of -4% to -1%, according to data updated on January 22, suggesting a downward outbreak curve. Earlier in the day, British Health Secretary Matt Hancock commented the country is still a "long, long way" from lifting lockdown measures.
