FB Oversight Board upholds Trump account ban

Facebook's Oversight Board decided on Wednesday to uphold the ban of Former United States President Donald Trump's account.

According to the statement, the board has "upheld Facebook’s decision on January 7, 2021, to restrict then-President Donald Trump’s access to posting content on his Facebook page and Instagram account." However, the board also stated that "it was not appropriate for Facebook to impose the indeterminate and standardless penalty of indefinite suspension," as it was different than the platform's normal penalties.

The board gave Facebook six months to complete a review on the matter in order to "determine and justify a proportionate response that is consistent with the rules that are applied to other users of its platform," with the board giving their own recommendations on the case.
