Russia partially lifts Twitter's traffic speed limit

Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) reported on Monday that they have removed restrictions on Twitter Inc.'s access restrictions on fixed networks.

According to the watchdog, the move was made as a result of Twitter "removing over 91% of prohibited information" and the company's management saying that they "fully share the agency's actions to combat socially dangerous content and will take all necessary measures to remove" the problematic content. However, Roskomnadzor noted that the restrictions on mobile devices will remain until the platform has removed all the indicated materials, as well as bring the response time for removing content to less than 24 hours.

In the same statement, the regulator issued a warning to Facebook and YouTube saying that "cases have been identified of posting illegal materials" on the websites, and that if the platforms "do not take appropriate measures," they too may face traffic speed restrictions and even a potential block of their services.
