EU opens antitrust probe into Google ad-tech business

The European Union opened a formal antitrust investigation into Google over concerns of anti-competitive behavior in its advertising-technology business.

"Online advertising services are at the heart of how Google and publishers monetize their online services. We are concerned that Google has made it harder for rival online advertising services to compete in the so-called ad tech stack," the EU’s antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager said on Tuesday.

Earlier this month, Google allowed UK regulators to oversee plans to phase out existing ad-tracking technology from the company's Chrome browser as part of a competition investigation into the tech giant.
