Markets in Europe ended the session in the green on Monday despite worse-than-expected economic data. Reports from IHS Markit showed that business activity slowed in the European Union and the United Kingdom but French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire remained confident the country's economy will return to pre-pandemic levels before the end of the year.

The FTSE 100 rose 0.30%. Sainsbury pushed the index higher as its shares soared 15.37% on reports the supermarket chain could receive a takeover bid from a private equity firm.

The DAX gained 0.28% with Delivery Hero, up 1.99%, leading the gains.

The CAC 40 jumped 1.08%. The best performer was Hermes whose shares rallied 3%.

The euro added 0.27% against the dollar to sell for 1.17319 at 5:56 pm CET and the pound climbed 0.67% compared to the greenback to go for 1.37160 at the same time.
