General Motors Co. announced on Thursday that vehicle production will be suspended at eight of its factories in North America during the next two weeks due to "continued parts shortages caused by semiconductor supply constraints."

"We remain confident in our team's ability to continue finding creative solutions to minimize the impact on our highest-demand and capacity-constrained vehicles," GM said in a statement.

Yesterday, it was reported that Ford Motor Company will suspend the production of its F-150 pickup truck also due to the ongoing shortage of chips.
