Bitcoin falls under 40K amid crypto plunge

Cryptocurrencies continued to trade with losses on Tuesday with Bitcoin losing over 5% and reaching below the $40,000 benchmark at its lowest level.

US Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler stated earlier that his agency has "great authority" over the crypto markets. Meanwhile, media reports claimed that the Coinbase exchange platform is looking to propose to federal officials a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency trading.

Bitcoin dropped 5.24% at 7:19 pm ET and sold for $40,644. Meanwhile, Ether traded 6.35% lower and went for $2,744.
