The White House will host a meeting with industry leaders of the semiconductor supply chain on Thursday and request further information in an effort to increase transparency around the global chip shortage and strengthen America's own supply chains.

Apple, Ford, GM, Intel and Samsung are among companies expected to participate, as well as the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).

SIA president and CEO John Neuffer welcomed the move in a statement released Thursday, saying "the White House has taken a series of decisive steps aimed at strengthening U.S. chip production and innovation ... We look forward to working with leaders in Washington to fund the CHIPS Act and enact an investment tax credit encompassing both manufacturing and design to help ensure the long-term resilience of America’s semiconductor supply chains."
