YouTube suspends two RT German channels

YouTube deleted on Tuesday RT's (Russia Today) German-language channels RT DE and Der Fehlende Part for breaching COVID misinformation policy. The TV channel's editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan said the accounts were suspended with no option to restore them.

Russia's communications watchdog addressed the social media giant, demanding to take the restrictions off of the government-backed RT channel, citing freedom of speech violation. Should YouTube not comply, its head company Google will be fined 1 million rubles ($13,700) at first notice and 3 million rubles ($41,212) after second notice.

According to Simonyan, RT DE's YouTube channel was fourth most influential among those belonging to German media, beating Deutsche Welle. She urged Kremlin to respond and ban German TV outlets in Russia.
