General Motors announced on Thursday it plans to source 100% renewable energy to power its sites in the United States by 2025, accelerating its transition to renewable energy.

"We know climate action is a priority and every company must push itself to decarbonize further and faster," GM Chief Sustainability Officer Kristen Siemen stated. "That’s what we are doing by aiming to achieve 100 percent renewable energy five years earlier in the US as we continue to advance on our commitment to lead an all-electric, carbon-neutral future," she added.

In 2016, the carmaker expected to reach 100% renewable energy in the US by 2050. Earlier this year, GM noted it will invest $35 billion in electric and automated vehicle technologies by 2025.
