US opens higher following retail sales data

Major United States stock indexes opened higher on Friday, after retail and food services sales increased 0.7% in September, according to a Census Bureau report. Additionally, President Biden signed into law a bill aimed at raising the federal debt ceiling, as the White House expressed optimism that the reconciliation bill will "soon" be a reality.

The Dow Jones gained 0.63% at 9:31 am ET, with UnitedHealth Group Inc increasing by 4.17%. The Nasdaq 100 increased by 0.13% at the same time, with Marriott International leading the gains with a 2.17% increase. The S&P 500 was up by 0.46% a minute later, Ford Motor Co trading 2.26% higher.

The euro remained flat compared to the dollar, selling for 1.15991 at 9:25 am ET, with the pound gaining 0.49% to exchange hands for 1.37390 at the same time.
