Europe closes higher as Wall Street sentiment spills over

Shares on the major European stock market indices ended the session with gains on Wednesday, seemingly influenced by a change of sentiment on the most prominent benchmarks in the United States.

Omicron strain continued to dominate the headlines, with the United Kingdom recording its highest-ever daily rise in cases, and the German health minister hinting that mandatory vaccinations could be the only way out of the pandemic.

The DAX advanced by 0.95% as the session ended, with Delivery Hero surging 7.37%. The CAC 40 jumped 1.24% at the same time as Airbus soared 4.01%. Meanwhile, in London, the FTSE 100 gained 0.61%. Dechra Pharmaceuticals was the best performer with a 4.47% rise.

The euro and the pound flew 0.44% and 0.63% versus the dollar at 5:30 pm CET, selling for 1.13327 and 1.33520, respectively.
