AMD finalizes $50 billion acquisition of Xilinx

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. announced on Monday it has closed the deal to buy semiconductor manufacturer Xilinx Inc. for $50 billion as part of the company's plans to become a "high-performance and adaptive computing leader."

"Xilinx offers industry-leading FPGAs, adaptive SoCs, AI engines and software expertise that enable AMD to offer the strongest portfolio of high-performance and adaptive computing solutions in the industry and capture a larger share of the approximately $135 billion market opportunity we see across cloud, edge and intelligent devices," AMD CEO Lisa Su noted.

The agreement was first announced on October 27, 2020, and its worth has since jumped from $35 billion to $50 billion.
