US markets open mixed ahead of Fed minutes

Major stock markets in the US opened mixed on Monday amid fresh reports on the Ukraine crisis and its global impact on the markets and the economy and worries about the yield spreads that inverted again ahead of Fed minutes.

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) announced that it has agreed to buy software start-up Pensando Systems Inc. for around $1.9 billion. Previously, Twitter (TWTR) soared 25% during premarket hours after Elon Musk revealed a significant stake in the social media company. Moreover, the 2-year/10-year and the 5-year/30-year yield curves inverted again, a distortion that is taken as a sign of recession.

The Dow Jones lost 0.25% at 9:31 am ET, with McDonald's Corp sinking 1.39% a minute later. The Nasdaq 100 added 0.27%, and Pinduoduo was leading the gains, improving by 5.96% at 9:33 am CET. The S&P 500 was flat, as Starbucks Corp dropped by 3.95%. The euro was down by 0.56% against the dollar at 9:29 am ET, selling for $1.09859.
