SpaceX, T-Mobile team up to end mobile dead zones

SpaceX founder Elon Musk (pictured) and T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert announced a partnership in order to eliminate "dead zones" without mobile signal coverage in the United States. They also launched a call to carriers worldwide to join the project.

The two companies will use Starlink's satellite network to provide a connection in areas that are currently without wireless service. Musk explained that the bandwidth will be limited, allowing for text messages, calls and images and "even potentially a little bit of video." The technology will be available on existing cellphones and will not require new hardware, Sievert and Musk said. The service should begin to roll out by the end of 2023, with Sievert hoping it will be free for "our most popular plans."
