Wall Street opens higher after earnings reports

Major equities on Wall Street opened with gains on Friday as investors digested the latest batch of corporate earnings for the third quarter of the fiscal year released before the opening bell.

UnitedHealth Group Incorporated reported a 12% jump in its revenue, while JPMorgan Chase & Co. revealed its diluted earnings per share topped market estimates. Additionally, Wells Fargo & Co., Citigroup Inc., and Morgan Stanley published their quarterly earnings. Meanwhile, the country's retail sales in September remained virtually unchanged from last month's reading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.52% or 156 points at the opening bell, as JPMorgan Chase & Co. skyrocketed by 2.38%. The Nasdaq 100 gained 0.96% with Marriott International Inc. jumping by 2.39%. The S&P 500 increased by 0.65% as Etsy Inc. recorded a 1.31% hike.

The euro lost 0.26% against the American currency, to change hands to $0.97519 at 9:32 am ET.
