Europe opens lower ahead of inflation data

Major stock markets in Europe opened lower on Tuesday, as investors waited for the latest data on inflation to be published by the European Union. Meanwhile, easyJet reported that its total revenue for 2021 dropped when compared to last year, and Germany's daily coronavirus case numbers continue to be high.

The DAX began the day 1.07% in the red, as Volkswagen dropped 2.14%. The FTSE 100 was down by 0.92% at the opening bell, with Intercontinental Hotels Group falling 2.35%. The CAC 40 plummeted 1.45% at the start of the session, as Essilorluxottica lost 2.27%.

The euro gained 0.54% against the dollar to trade for $1.13398 at 9:04 am CET, while the pound rose 0.26% against the American currency to change hands for $1.33374 at the same time.
