US opens higher as Fed vows to deal with inflation

Stock markets in the United States opened higher on Friday following remarks by Federal Reserve officials that offered some hope on Thursday. Fed Chair Jerome Powell insisted the Fed will act "strongly" against inflation and keep going until the job is done." Chicago Fed President Charles Evans said the US has a ''decent chance'' of avoiding a recession.

The Dow Jones added 0.54% at 9:30 am ET, as Salesforce Inc. gained 1.21%. The Nasdaq 100 improved by 0.89%, with Zscaler jumping 16.29%. The S&P 500 grew by 0.64%, led by Halliburton Co. at 3.66%.

The euro traded 0.52% higher compared to the dollar at 9:45 am ET, selling for 1.00486.
