The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published a study on Monday claiming that coronavirus vaccines made by Pfizer and Moderna are 80% effective after the first of two doses. The study was carried out between December and March and involved almost 4,000 health care workers.

Two weeks after the second dose, the effectiveness of the vaccines increased to 90%, the study found. The CDC concluded that the shots are "effective for preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection, regardless of symptom status, among working-age adults in real-world conditions" and recommended immunization "for all eligible persons."
